Component Inspection

Meticulous Inspection of Components

Overhaul Support Services inspects parts of all sizes and shapes, using different techniques for magnetic and nonmagnetic metals.

  • Magnetic particle inspection
  • Fluorescent penetrant inspection
  • Visible dye penetrant inspection
  • Flight Safety Parts Category “K” Inspection Verification (Sikorsky)
  • NDT inspection using white light and UV oscillating borescope for final inspection of components containing internal ports and internal core passageways

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI). In a magnetic field, surface and subsurface defects of a test part will “leak” magnetism and attract fine metal particles suspended around the part. OSS technicians identify and assess these defects with great accuracy in special ultraviolet light inspection booths. There is no size limit for MPI-inspected parts.

Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI). For titanium, magnesium and nonmagnetic alloys, test pieces are saturated with fluorescent or visible dye. Using UV light inspection, OSS technicians spot and interpret defects highlighted by the dye. Test parts can be up to nine feet in diameter and any length.
